Engineering Goes Racing

With thanks to our partners & sponsors!

About the Project

Huge thanks to our professional partners on the Engineering Pathway who helped make our ‘F1 in Schools’ project such a great experience for students!

We simply couldn’t have done this amazing projects without the support of our team sponsors – Heidi Bell Design and Skew Energetics – plus our judges from Atkinson Vos and P. Irving & Sons Timber Merchants.

Our partners’ support made this week’s ‘Race Day’ a cracking climax after months of work for the students covering several stages:

  • Design: Using  3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to create an F1 car
  • Manufacture: Using 3D CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) software along with a CNC router and additive manufacturing
  • Test: Using our wind tunnel to check aerodynamics
  • Modification: Final updates to cars before Race Day!

Students also needed to find a team sponsor and produce publicity materials with their race team name and logo – so thanks to our partners for coming on board with such enthusiasm.

Special mentions to sponsors Heidi Pearson from Heidi Bell Design and Bob Mackin from Skew Energetics.

We’re also very grateful to our judging panel on Race Day: Henry, Ed and Ryan from Atkinson Vos plus Peter, Max and Guy from P. Irving & Sons Timber Merchants.

Finally, congratulations to the winner of the overall competition – Felix Pearson!
