Quick Summary

Pick this Health & Education Pathway if you want to explore the Health and Social Care sector that covers some of the most important issues facing society, such as people’s physical and mental health and the support of services from the Police and Hospitals to Councils & Government.
Link with professional partners include working with colleagues from University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay,  the Alzheimer’s Society and Beaumont College Lancaster to give students a better understanding of a range of health, social care and childcare roles.
Health & Education Studies is available as a Level 2 pathway, which students complete in Years 10 and 11.  There is a clear progression, right from when students pick their options in Year 9 for anyone keen on the healthcare sector.

On the Health & Education Studies Pathway, we will work with a range of local health and social care practitioners and community organisations, such as our Level 3 students becoming accredited ‘Dementia Friends’ champions and a range of extended work placements offered by local early years providers.
Plus point for the Health & Education pathway includes learning about issues which impact upon people and their everyday lives such barriers to communication and services which are available to help and support individuals.  In addition, all students take part in basic first aid training.
In terms of future directions, the Level 2 pathway can lead to many routes at Sixth Form, while students can then progress to options such as degree courses in nursing, midwifery and related health disciplines, or further learning in a workplace setting through an apprenticeship programme.

Professional Partner Engagement:

This year, Year 10 and 12 Health Pathway students have been working with East Integrated Care Communities on a project looking at population health in the local area.  This means they have to identify who makes up the local population and what are their health needs.  The aim is that they will be involved in a project that will target a specific local health concern and help to improve health and well-being in the local community.
