Pick the Manufacturing Engineering Pathway if you want to develop practical skills in a workshop environment, such as using CAD/CAM and materials such as wood, metal & polymers.

Link with professional partners will include trips and visits that will offer pupils experience of manufacturing processes, roles in industry and to develop employability skills such as teamwork, decision making and creative thinking.

Manufacturing Engineering is a Level 2 Pathway that students start in Year 10 and complete in Year 11.  Students can start to apply for a place on the course when they pick their Options during Year 9.

This Pathway will tap into the expertise of local manufacturers and engineering firms to give learners experience of manufacturing in the ‘real world’.  Specialist manufacturing expertise can be provided by Lancaster University and community links made through enterprise and community projects.

Plus points for Manufacturing Engineering include opportunities to work in woods, metals and plastics and experience machining skills, welding and brazing, joinery skills and the many methods of forming plastics.

In terms of future career directions, this pathway is ideally suited to pupils who want to take up an apprenticeship after GCSEs, but other options include Product Design A-level or Level 1/2 BTEC Engineering.
